What is Normal Color Vision?

How human eye experience normal color vision? It happens with special cells (known as rods and cones) in the back of the eye. The cone cells allow you to have normal color vision.

Cone cells contain photopigment molecules that undergo a chemical change when they absorb light. This chemical change triggers electrical signals which passed from the retina to the visual parts of the brain.

Rod cells help to recognize the shape, size, and brightness of visual images versus color. These three types of cone cells: red, green, and blue. This is the main reason for a normal color vision that is also known as trichromats.

People with normal color vision use all three types of light cones correctly. The center of the fovea (macula) is responsible for the most acute color vision because it has highest concentration of cones.

What is Color Blindness?

Color blindness is defined as, If one or more color cone cells are absent, not working, or detect a different color than normal. Severe color blindness occurs when one of three cone cells are missing, which sees a different color than normal.

There are several types of inherited colour blindness.

  • Anomalous Trichromacy :When all three cone cells are used to perceive light colors, but one type of them senses light slightly out of alignment, so that creates are three different types of the effect produced depending upon which type of cone is faulty.

  • Dichromacy :If two types of cones perceive color, i.e., they have an absence of function of one cone type. Unable to see color is the easiest way to explain this condition. We can call these areas of the light spectrum "red", "green", or "blue".

  • Monochromacy (achromatopsia) :People with monochromatic vision cannot see any color at all. Their universe consists of different tones of grey ranging from black to white, rather like only seeing the world on an old black and white television set.
